Kelly and Kevin's Wedding Highlights

The team recently got the opportunity to shoot a wedding for Kelly and Kevin over at St. Paul's Catholic Church here in San Francisco - a new location for us, and definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a nice traditional ambiance. Reception was hosted at the Crowne Plaza in Foster City, CA. This couple was definitely one of the most outgoing couples we've met to date and really know how to be the life of the party!

Here's our highlight of Kelly & Kev's wedding. We hope you enjoy.

How to Choose a Wedding Videographer

At Lee Studio, what sets our wedding videography apart is our ability to connect with our couples one-on-one and build a rooted personal relationship. We see our clients more than just customers; they're friends. When we attend a client's wedding or event, we don't simply see ourselves as "point and shoot" videographers, we're cinematic storytellers that play an integral role in documenting their day. As we say here at Lee Studio, "Don't just remember, relive."

Our customer service philosophy is not just a statement as it begins organically in-house; the Lee Studio crew is much more than just a production team, we're a bound group of friends that share the same passion about video and commitment to raising the industry bar.

Through the course of our experience, we've heard our share of video and photo horror stories. We've even seen and edited firsthand some frighteningly amateur footage shot by self proclaimed professionals. So in hopes to make the task of shopping for a videographer less daunting and protect videography as an art, we've shared the following article with you all to help weed out the bad eggs when it's time to look.

Choosing Your Wedding Videographer

When properly produced, wedding videography is an art and not simply a home movie. When choosing your videographer you should consider a few things. Hiring a professional videographer is a must. Videographers do not participate in the activities. They must remain focused on what to videotape, how to get the shot, camera settings, sound, lighting and so on. That’s why it is important that a family member or friend not be selected as the videographer. They will not be able to celebrate with the couple at the reception. The videographer will not be able to relax and chat with family and friends. If they do, they could miss valuable shots if their attention is drawn away.

Your videographer must be experienced in wedding videography. Ten years as a videographer for a TV station is nice, but it doesn’t qualify one to produce a wedding DVD. Your videographer and video editor (sometimes it’s the same person) must be trained in wedding productions and what shots to capture, how to capture those shots and artistic video editing. Just as with photography, there are angles to set up, positioning of the couple for certain scenes like the cake cutting, garter and bouquet toss. After doing hundreds of weddings, the experienced videographer develops a sense of the flow of the day’s events.

It’s nice if the photographer, videographer and DJ all have an itinerary of the events during the reception but rarely do receptions start on time, event schedules can change so being prepared for the unexpected is typical. If the videographer has stepped away for just one minute, he (or she) could miss something special that’s not on the itinerary. The groomsmen (or even special family members) could get together to do a special dance dedicated to the bride and groom. It’s a surprise to the couple and so it’s not on the itinerary. Another important aspect is that your videographer should make an effort to become familiar with the immediate family members and recognize them. The couple will want shots of family members in the video. For example, the bride’s elderly grandmother has decided to dance with her grandson for just a minute. Your videographer should be aware of what’s going on and prepared to get that shot. There’s a lot going on during the wedding day and the videographer obviously can’t capture every single moment else the wedding DVD will be almost 8 hours in length. However, capturing the important shots is what makes a treasured wedding DVD. Another must have is good equipment. Some videocameras shoot better in low light. Event videography, especially weddings have more issues with low light than other video productions. Extra lighting helps but maintaining an intimate setting is easier without blasting the scene with too much additional lighting. Check out the videographer’s demo. Are the scenes properly lit or has the image taken on a grainy or darker look? Are the colors crisp? Is the audio clear? Ask them for referrals. That’s your safest bet.

The 10th Anniversary of Michelle's Sweet 16

The Lee Studio gang just completed a recent shoot for our newfound friend, Michelle, who kindly invited us to shoot her elaborately planned birthday party at King of Thai, located in the North Beach district of San Francisco.

Wittily titled "The 10th Anniversary of Michelle's Sweet 16" (arg, math!), the party agenda consisted of great food, a fully stocked bar, a dance performance, a number of musical performances by loved ones, and even a hypnotist! We must say that we were genuinely impressed by the amount of talent that we saw that night.

Anyhow, without further adieu, here's a highlight reel we made:

From the Lee Studio crew, happy birthday Michelle!

On another note - we are proud to announce that we recently updated our website with some new visuals, a faster streaming video gallery, and upgraded video/editing packages.

California Cosmetology Association's 80th Annual Convention

New update! The Lee Studio team recently got the opportunity to shoot for the California Cosmetology Association's 80th Annual Convention. We have been incredibly excited for the opportunity to expand our event/commercial video portfolio and show off some of our work beyond our usual scope of wedding videography.

We had an absolute blast shooting for such a fun and professional community of stylists and artists - amongst the crowd was renowned stylist Timothy Martin of Timothy Martin Salons, Maxi from the cast of Lifetime's reality TV show, Blush, as well as Arnel Bailon, the head stylist for Blush who we were fortunate enough to meet and work with.

Hope you enjoy our teaser trailer of the event. :)

EDIT:
Just an added sidenote-- for those of you who are not already familiar with the show Blush and the cast, check out some of Maxi's antics from the show. We can attest to the fact that he's just as crazy off camera as he is on!

Kat and Al's 50th Wedding Anniversary Slideshow

Ah! Our debut just wouldn't be complete without putting a spotlight on one of our favorite pairs: Katherine and Albert. Here's a clip of their slideshow from their golden 50th wedding anniversary. Kudo's to Ray from our team for his awesome videography and cinematic edits!

Check it out:

Also, on a random side note, we had the opportunity to mingle with a spunky group of girls this past week. They specialize in movie set design, and like us, just launched their website. Check out www.lacehammerpaint.com if you get a chance.

Ed would best describe them as a female version of our crew...except set designers. :)
